Protective Shield Made from the Remains of 1,000 Warriors
Amaryllis R. Flowers, 2018
36 in x 54 in
Acrylic nails, synthetic human hair, acrylic paint, foam

A round sculpture made from hundreds of disembodied acrylic nail sets in coffin and cathedral shapes. The nails are painted in various blues and arranged to make a midnight blue - storm gray circular gradient. They are all arranged in an arc folding towards the center of the shield, which caves in and forms a protected glittering hole. Bordering the shield is a fluorescent circle rainbow. Blue ombre braiding hair forms a veil attached to the bottom of the shield, to protect the body of the one who wields it.
