The Trouble With Us (tormenta tropical)
Amaryllis R. Flowers, 2021
44.5 in x 99.5 in
Watercolor, gouache, collage, colored pencil, graphite, airbrush, and acrylic on paper

Large scale drawing on paper depicting a queer creation fantasy where two scissoring gods use nocturnal elements to raise the mortal dead, who hovers in the dark beneath a phantom rainbow. Blue lightning bolts illuminate the dead and her iridescent skeleton of the same shade. The scissoring figures are in various states of ecstatic transformation- the figure to the left ripples with images of a younger self spear-hunting haunting spirits, ghosts, ears, bones, rainbow lights, night sky, eyes, other symbols, tears. Her long ponytail is full of beheaded femmes coughing up the sun and passing it between their tongues. The figure to the right is a shape shifting silhouette shimmering with fluorescent rainbow gradients.  Her skin is puckered with stars and spots.  They scissor in a reclined position, in a tall grass, in a darkness, in a storm, with thick stemmed roses swallowed by the background.
